Frequently Asked Questions

Once I receive your enquiry, I will get in touch to schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation.
The purpose of this phone consultation is to provide the opportunity for you to ask any questions and for me to ask questions that help me better understand your situation. By the end of the call we will both make an assessment on whether I am the best fit for you and what you need right now. If one of us decides that I am not the best fit, then I will provide you with alternatives that may be better suited. If we both decide I may be a good fit, then we will proceed to make a booking.
There is no obligation at all for you to make a booking following the phone call.

After you schedule your first appointment, I will send you intake and consent forms that take about 5-10 minutes to complete.
The intake form allows us to exchange basic information to allow to make the best use of our time together during our first session.
The consent form outlines the scope of our sessions and relevant medico-legal information.
-
The first session is focused on getting to know each other and developing a treatment plan via an initial assessment.
I ask about the issues that have brought you to therapy and about your background history. Together, we will figure out your treatment goals and discuss treatment options.
Should we both agree to go ahead with sessions, we outline a plan to achieve your goals.
I also provide more information about how sessions with me typically work and about my approach to therapy.
-
The information you share with me during sessions is kept private and confidential (with some exceptions that I will discuss with you in our first appointment). This security extends to the software I use, record keeping and payment information.
You can read more about the ethical standards all psychologists are held to in the Australian Psychological Society’s Code of Ethics.

You don’t need a referral to attend sessions. However, you may get help with payments through Medicare, private health insurance, NDIS. or NSW Workers Compensation.
Medicare provides a rebate for 10 sessions in a calendar year. You can access this rebate by going to your GP and asking for a referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan. If you have a referral to see someone at another psychology practice you can still use that referral to see me.
Some private health funds will provide a rebate. Check your individual policy to see if this is the case for you. Rebates from a private health fund can be nifty to use once the Medicare rebated sessions end.
If you have self-managed or plan managed NDIS funding, you can allocate funds to see me.
If you are receiving support through NSW Workers Compensation, you can choose to see me as a SIRA approved psychologist. Your insurer funds the sessions.

I fully appreciate that sometimes life happens and you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
Under most circumstances, 48 hours notice is required. Where cancellation occurs within 48 hours of our appointment, 50% of your session fee is charged. Where cancellation occurs with less than 24 hours notice or you do not show to your appointment, the full amount of your session fee is charged.
